The 12 Orders of Soil Taxonomy | Allison HammerI'm excited to share the course project my Intro Soils students and I developed this semester: an ArcGIS StoryMap exploring the 12 orders of soil taxonomy. Many people aren’t aware of just how complex soils are or how dramatically they can vary across different landscapes, let alone that they’re classified using a formal taxonomy. Our goal was to make this topic engaging and accessible through an interactive format. This project also gave students hands-on experience with the ArcGIS StoryMaps platform, a first for all but one of them. While the final product contains a lot of information and may feel a bit overwhelming at times, I’m proud of what we created together. In hindsight, I might have assigned each student their own StoryMap and compiled them into a collection. Still, I’m thrilled with the outcome and their hard work!
