Hello, I’m Allison Hammer, a Cartographer/GIS Specialist, soil scientist, university educator, and U.S. Navy veteran. I have more than a decade of USDA experience using geospatial science, natural-resource expertise, and process improvement to support agricultural programs and help people make informed decisions.
In my current role with FPAC Geospatial Enterprise Operations, I support nationally used geospatial datasets and services, including the National Agriculture Imagery Program Compressed County Mosaics and the Geospatial Data Gateway. My previous USDA experience includes conservation planning, supervisory leadership, soil science, wetland compliance, and more than 1,000 certified wetland determinations.
I have also taught GIS, physical geology, environmental geology, and soil science at Batten University (formerly Virginia Wesleyan University) for nine years. Whether I am supporting USDA programs, developing training, mentoring students, or creating public educational resources, I enjoy translating complex information into practical solutions and leaving systems stronger than I found them.
